Background and production [edit]

In 2011, the band institute a new resolution to write music for a general popular audition, as a way to both challenge themselves, and to make music that would resonate with a greater number of people.[1] Sakanaction began to write music for use in commercial campaigns and television programs.[2] Their kickoff release for a television program was writing the Tsuyoshi Kusanagi-starring drama 37-sai de Isha ni Natta Boku: Kenshui Junjō Monogatari, "Boku to Hana", which the band released every bit a single in 2012.[iii] In 2014, the band had their first experience of creating theme songs for Japanese films. The producers of the Satoshi Tsumabuki-starring film Judge! asked the band to employ their 2010 single "Identity" as the theme song for the pic,[iv] and after asked the band to write a new limerick for the ending credits, "Eureka".[5] Later on in 2014, Sakanaction released "Hasu no Hana", a song they wrote as the theme song for the picture Close Range Dear, starring Tomohisa Yamashita and Nana Komatsu.[6]

Motion Music of Bakuman was the commencement fourth dimension Sakanaction had produced an entire soundtrack for a film.[7] Bakuman director Hitoshi Ohne asked the ring to create the soundtrack in 2013, after existence impressed by the band's performance at the 2012 Taicoclub outdoor music festival.[8] Ohne liked the fact that all of the members of Sakanaction were able to produce music, something which he believed added a nifty variety to the soundtrack.[8]

After reading the script, Sakanaction created demos for approximately ten songs to exist used in the soundtrack,[8] which they recorded at Aobadai Studio in Meguro, Tokyo.[9] Ohne set these demos to the already filmed scenes, then discussed in cracking item with the ring'south vocalist and songwriter Ichiro Yamaguchi exactly how he would prefer the music for these scenes to be, eventually creating a soundtrack that reflected his personal vision.[8]

The demo version of the CGI battle scene music ("Downwardly with Eiji!") used traditional Japanese instruments such every bit taiko drums, the koto and the Ainu idiophone mukkuri, however Ohne vetoed the use of the mukkuri in the last cut of the song.[viii] In one composition ("It'southward Our Gambling Game!"), the band used the audio effects of the film'south protagonists drawing.[7]

Release and promotion [edit]

The soundtrack was compiled equally a part of the Bakuman Box edition of the "Shin Takarajima" single: a 3 disc set featuring 2 audio CDs and a DVD.[7] On the CD, the soundtrack is recorded as a unmarried track, totalling over 30 minutes of music.[seven] The single runway is composed of xix different sequences, where each sequence is separated by the sound event of turning pages.[9] The album's booklet features the titles of each of the soundtrack sequences hidden in a typographical picture.[9]

He felt that the soundtrack had a stiff sense of the genre-crossing avant garde aspects of Sakanaction's music.[10] The soundtrack won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Music at the 39th Nihon Academy Prize awards, while the moving-picture show Bakuman also received the Japan University Prize for Best Moving-picture show Editing and Popularity awards.[eleven]
